The boat launch in Wiarton is going to be getting some much-needed repairs this summer.
The Department of Fisheries and Oceans announce their plans at Tuesday’s council meeting for South Bruce Peninsula.
Mayor Janice Jackson says there is a hope that the DFO will choose a local contractor to complete the work, and possibly have the area available for use by the public on weekends, even with work taking place.
Local angler Stu Patterson says that fishing and boating enthusiasts from all over have been waiting for repairs, noting that there was a lengthy amount of time where the dock itself was underwater.
The work is expected to start in August and run through September, with special attention to upcoming events like the Chantry Chinook Fishing Derby and the Salmon Spectacular.
Patterson also says that even though the repair work will take place during boating season, it’s only short-term pain for long-term gain.
