Grey County Committee of the Whole is approving a proposed plan to create a 155 unit subdivision in the Township of Southgate.
During a council meeting on June 9, a report was brought forward by Deputy CAO Randy Scherzer.
The report recommends having all written and oral submissions on the planned Flato Glenelg subdivision be considered and approve the plan for the subdivision.
The report says the county and the Township of Southgate received applications in 2020 for the Flato Glenelg/Southgate Meadows Phase 2 development, which included a county official plan amendment, local official plan amendment, a plan of subdivision and a zoning amendment.
The proposed subdivision in the northwest corner of the Dundalk area, would consist of 93 single detached units, 62 townhouse units, blocks for parkland, storm water management, walkways and trails, open space, and future right-of-way and internal roads.
The subdivision would be serviced by municipal water and sewer services.
In addition to a number of comments received by local organizations and businesses, comments from residents on the project were also received.
One individual asked at a public meeting if the development would have any impact on the existing residents on Doyle Street. It was clarified that the County CP Rail Trail acts as a divider between the homes on Doyle Street and the planned development. The resulting impact would be minimal for those who live on Doyle Street.
Southgate Deputy Mayor and Coun. Brian Milne says the question of affordability comes up time and time again.
“I can assure council that Southgate has a really good relationship with the builder, the developer, and he has committed as best he can to keeping the price point as low as he can to encourage people to invest in the subdivision. We are quite happy and supportive of his attempts to do that. He is a quality builder and he has been very good to work with,” says Milne.
