Bruce Power is partnering with Westario Power to provide support to local municipalities to increase the availability of electric vehicle chargers.
This partnership comes as President and CEO of Westario Power Jenny Alfandary, President and CEO of Bruce Power Mike Rencheck and Mayor of the Municipality of Brockton Chris Peabody announced the planned site of a level two charging station at the Walkerton Community Centre on June 13.
Westario Power says this will be the first of possibly three charging stations in Brockton at the community centre.
The Westario Power and Bruce Power partnership provides support and funding to municipalities in Bruce, Grey and Huron to bring more chargers and address growing needs.
Westario says there are currently 45 accessible stations across the three counties, servicing over 200,000 people.
Peabody says he is excited about the opportunity to bring a clean energy option to Brockton, which fulfils their community’s vision of environmental integrity and progressive economic development.
“Council will diligently finalize plans in the weeks ahead that will allow us to get the stations up and running,” says Peabody.
Alfandary adds, “through this partnership, we are living up to our mission of powering people’s lives, while also responding to climate change and supporting the transition to net zero.”
Westario says Brockton is also currently considering installing charging stations at the Elmwood Community Centre and the Cargill Community Centre to service electric vehicle users across the community.
This is part of the Lead the Charge initiative which was kick started in Brockton this week.
Westario says they and Bruce Power look forward to partnering with other municipalities to make electric vehicle charging accessible for their residents and visitors.
