The first-ever Walk for Courage was a resounding success.
The event set out to raise $5,000 for the Canadian Mental Health Association and ended up far exceeding that goal by raising a total of $12,420 and had at least 115 participants.
The walk is named in honour of Jeff Courage, a former Owen Sound resident, West Hill student, and staff member at Owen Sound Fitness and Training who died by suicide in 2019.
Josh Burnett is a trainer at Owen Sound Fitness, which was a title sponsor for the event, and says that they had an impressive response from the community, and we’re happy to have good weather for the event.
“It was fantastic to be able to do something in the name of Jeff Courage, to be able to help support a great cause.”
Burnett says that he thinks the Courage family should be proud of their efforts in creating the event.
“Just to see the kind of support that was out there over the weekend, and even prior, because of the online fundraising and comments there. I think they should be very proud and very pleased with the outcome.”
The Courage family hopes to make this an annual event.
