Kincardine hospital is under construction for a new 2,000 square-foot addition to host a new CT scanner.
The South Bruce Grey Health Centre (SBGHC) says the addition will be situated south of the main entrance, and next to the east side of the existing hospital building.
The expansion will include a private CT suite, technologist area, patient prep room, wait space, change room, washroom, and stretch holding area.
The purchase order for the CT scanner was made in April 2021, and will arrive when the addition to the hospital is completed.
The SBGHC says this CT scanner model is the latest Health Canada has approved, as it offers numerous technological advancements which will improve image quality and reduce radiation dose.
The model also sports artificial intelligence, which automatically positions the scanner and decreases staff time needed to process data after the exam. while also allowing additional patient types and sizes to be scanned.
The CT scanner company offered SBGHC an opportunity to switch to the new model at not additional cost for the equipment or service contracts.
Kincardine Physician Dr. Jason Murray says, “the Kincardine Physician group is extremely pleased with the progress on the CT project, and we are excited to be getting this new model, which will enhance patient care in our Emergency Department, inpatient unit, and for our family medicine patients.”
President and CEO of SBGHC Michael Barrett adds, “every day, patients are traveling out of the Kincardine community to access CT service, and in many cases, our staff and physicians are leaving the hospital to accompany them. The installation of a CT scanner means that patients can now complete this diagnostic imaging without leaving the hospital, saving time and stress for the patient and their families.”
The CT scanner at the Kincardine hospital is expected to be operational in February 2023.
