Northern Bruce Peninsula council is looking at replacing or repairing the dock at Johnston Harbour.
During a meeting on July 11, councillors heard from cottage owners who look after the dock. They made a request to council for $30,000 in financial aid to cover the costs.
The current dock is used by boaters to help put their vessels in and out of the water safely while using the municipal ramp.
Tourists have also used it for swimming, while the fire department uses it to assist when filling a water tanker.
Northern Bruce Peninsula Mayor Milt McIver says while $30,000 was not incorporated into this year’s budget, staff are looking at alternatives.
“We bought a whole one dock, a sea dock it’s called in Lion’s Head, so we replaced the whole dock system there both the main and fingers. So when that whole dock came out, there were fingers or mains that may be able to be used in Johnston’s Harbour. We are having our staff look at that to see if that is a possibility. If it is, then it would be one way to help that boat launch in in Johnston’s Harbour,” says McIver.
McIver says a report is expected to come back at the next meeting presenting options on replacing the dock, but says it wouldn’t be until later in August that anything is available.
