Grey Highlands council is moving ahead to receive comments from residents regarding the climate action plan.
During a council meeting on July 20, a report was brought forward by CAO Karen Govan, recommending they instruct staff to move to the next phase of the process of the plan and received comments from residents.
This follows a previous meeting on July 7 where council received the climate action committee task force’s final report and staff review and provide comments on the report.
The report says during this time, Grey County was underway with presenting its final climate action plan, and set up a group called the climate change community of practice.
A delegation was made to council on June 1 on the county’s plan.
The report says Grey County’s plan is robust as it documents timelines and achievable milestones, as well as a road map to achieve zero emissions by 2050. The county’s plan could be adopted in principle to be overarching and influence the Grey Highlands plan.
The Grey Highlands plan, according to the report, related more specifically at what can be done in the short term and at the lower municipal level.
“The Grey Highlands plan is a good starting point that will ensure that policies, plans and studies will be reviewed through a climate lens and that any future decision will have climate action considerations. While the county plan is a more aggressive approach, it certainly would compliment the Grey Highlands plan,” says the report.
The report adds staff will continue to review the recommendations in alignment with the 2023 budget and new strategic plan.
The task force is recommending to council that the plan with staff comments be circulated so responces can be received by residents either through special interest groups or with an online survey.
When comments from residents are received, staff will bring back a report to council, along with further recommendations.
