A celebration is being held in Kincardine next month to celebrate and learn more about Hindu culture.
A joint release from Grey and Bruce Counties says residents are invited to attend the event on Aug. 13, as they will be able to take part in yoga, and enjoy traditional Hindu food, music and dancing.
This free event will be held at Victoria Park from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and is being hosted on behalf of the Swajan Samanvay Sanatan Centre, Municipality of Kincardine, Welcoming Communities Grey Bruce, and Grey Bruce Local Immigration Partnership.
The Hindu community is growing in the region and the event is an opportunity to embrace diversity through dialogue and explore Hindu culture, according to the release.
The Grey Bruce Local Immigration Partnership recognizes immigration will continue to play an important role in the economic future of the two counties and to support immigration outcomes, an initiative has been launched to help the integration of newcomers.
Bruce County Warden Janice Jackson says, “Bruce County and Grey County are exciting places to live and work. Our Grey Bruce Local Immigration Partnership is attracting new residents, fostering a community that is welcoming and inclusive, and is supporting newcomers in becoming fully engaged in the social, economic, political, and cultural lift in our region. It is wonderful to see local multicultural activities being highlighted.”
Grey County Warden Selwyn Hicks adds, a key part of being a welcoming community is creating opportunities for families and neighbours to come together, share traditions and learn from one another.
“What better way to meet your neighbours than to share in an exciting afternoon of great music and delicious food,” says Hicks.
