Kincardine continues to prepare for a major reconstruction project in its downtown scheduled to commence next spring.
Staff from the Municipality of Kincardine have been busy doing all of the research needed for the Queen Street Reconstruction Project.
The municipality’s Director of Infrastructure & Development Adam Weishar explained to council that they had done underground surveillance, including in basements of businesses in the area to understand the infrastructure needs.
His team also looked into ways that there could still be access to affected businesses and services.
“Some of the discussion to date, and that will continue forward is how do we make the project and program successful? Not only from a construction standpoint but how do we appropriately interface the community, both residentially and the business community?”
Weishar and his team have also been looking to other municipalities for inspiration as to what Queen Street may look like once work is complete.
“Two things we looked at — one was the overall scope of the project and phasing considerations. Another was ‘what do we want the cross-section of the downtown to look like?’”
In 2020 staff included a project in the capital plan with a budget of $4.8 million.
Staff’s recent report suggested an updated capital budget impact of $7 million, to be borrowed from the projected 2023 capital budget.
The expected timeline for the project is currently sitting at a total of 43 weeks.
