Hanover council unanimously endorsed a Land Acknowledgement Policy for their proceedings.
As a part of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action, council has approved a statement to be read during council meetings, special events such as opening or dedication ceremonies, and posted at municipal buildings.
Mayor Sue Paterson says that the land acknowledgement statement shows the town’s commitment to increase awareness and show respect for Indigenous peoples.
The town is also flying the Every Child Matters flag outside the Civic Centre for the month of September.
