Owen Sound Police held a fundraising barbeque for the United Way Bruce Grey in the city last week for the first time in a couple years.
Fundraising Champion Kristy Andre says the barbeque on Oct. 21 at the Farmer’s Market, helped raise over $500 for the United Way to support its various programs.
“They used to throw barbecues for the United Way in the past. This is the first one since 2019 that they have thrown the United Way, and they have this big community barbecue that they use and it’s quite massive,” says Andre.
Andre says they also handed out vouchers at OSHaRE for residents to pick up and enjoy either a hotdog or hamburger.
“We also had some leftovers at the end, so things that were not opened we gave to OSHaRE as well,” says Andre. “There were a little bit of hamburger buns and hot dog buns, some unopened packages of the frozen fully cooked hamburgers that we were able to donate to OSHaRE.”
Andre says it was a successful barbeque with the Owen Sound Police and Special Constable Jason Cranny, as they were able to serve meals to a number of vulnerable residents in the community.
