The Meaford Scarecrow Invasion is looking for more people to join its executive following a successful year.
Event Chair Donna Earl says this year’s invasion, parade, and family festival were all a success and thanks those who helped celebrate the past 25 years.
“From our first scarecrow building workshop in May forward, our volunteers and student helpers turned out in droves. They were excited and eager to be back and doing what they so love to do,” says Earl in a release.
The scarecrows expanded to include Annan and Leith in addition to the displays in downtown Meaford, Station Hill, and in Bognor.
Earl says they are facing an uncertain future, however, as the executive has fallen from a full slate of 12 members to three.
“We find ourselves in an awkward position going forward. We are facing the type of logistical decisions that three people alone can’t nor should, be making on behalf of so many,” says Earl.
She says they are looking for ways to reduce their carbon footprint, support and grow their volunteer base, and improve their fiscal plan and communication strategy.
She adds time is of the essence as planning for the invasion starts in January. With the current situation, however, Earl says without a full executive to take the lead for the event, next year is in jeopardy and needs a leadership team by Nov. 30.
