Provincial and regional police services are getting ready for the launch of this year’s Festive R.I.D.E. season.
Police say last year’s Festive R.I.D.E. campaign ended Jan. 3 and resulted in South Bruce OPP charging four motorists with impaired driving and issued two driver’s license suspensions.
Police say between Jan. 1, 2022 and Oct. 31, 2022, South Bruce OPP laid 73 impaired driving charges, a 13 per cent decline compared to the 84 charged from between Jan. 1, 2021 and Oct. 31, 2021.
South Bruce OPP Detachment Commander Inspector Krista Miller says, “a 13 per cent decline in impaired driving charges is a positive trend. However, the 73 charges laid represents 73 drivers that could have seriously injured or killed someone that you love had police not intervened. We are proud to join our policing partners across Grey and Bruce Counties to send a unified message that impaired driving will not be tolerated.”
Police say drivers are reminded that no amount of alcohol or drugs in your system is safe when driving. If your plans include drinking or consuming drugs, then your plans do not include driving.
Police advise arranging for a designated driver in these situations, or taking a taxi or public transportation, or any other solution around driving impaired.
Police say those charged with impaired driving will face an immediate seven-day vehicle impoundment and 90-day license suspension.
Police add services around Grey and Bruce counties remain committed to taking alcohol and drug-impaired drivers off the roads through enforcement and education.
