Registration is now open for the Josh Armstrong Memorial Road Hockey Tournament in Owen Sound.
The City of Owen Sound says the tournament, part of the Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada event, will be on Jan. 21 at 11 a.m. at Harrison Park.
This charity road hockey tournament will help celebrate the memory of Josh Armstrong, who passed at the age of 12 in September, 2019.
“Even at such a young age, Josh left a legacy as a forever team player when he donated his organs to help others live,” says the city in a release. “He was an avid hockey player and golfer and loved sports.”
The money raised will support his family’s charity of choice.
The tournament will host two divisions, based on age, with four teams in each division. Each team will consist of seven players, which include one goalie.
The U11 and U12 division is open to contenders born in 2010 and 2011. The U13 and U14 division is open to players born in 2008 and 2009.
The city says the deadline for team registration is Jan. 4 at 4:30 p.m., which includes a completed registration form and a $140 team payment delivered to the community services counter at city hall.
The first four teams in each age group who submit their required documents and payment will get a spot in the tournament.
