The Municipality of Grey Highlands is going to expand its network of recycling points to now accept household batteries.
The municipality is looking to lower its carbon footprint and divert waste from the landfill.
There are now drop-off buckets at all arenas and libraries in Grey Highlands, so residents can safely dispose of their used batteries.
The recycling program accepts rechargeable and single-use batteries that weigh less than 5 kg.
The batteries collected from the Grey Highlands locations will be processed at Raw Material Company’s facility in Port Colborne, Ontario, using North America’s most environmentally responsible technology.
In 2019, RMC recycled 50% of all the available primary batteries sold in Ontario.
