Two men face charges after one of them allegedly stole a luxury vehicle and some other items from people at an Owen Sound church.
Owen Sound Police allege a male entered an eastside church early Thursday evening and rummaged through people’s jackets, stealing items including a cell phone and the keys to a Lexus SUV.
According to police, the male then left the church and took off in the Lexus vehicle.
Police say a subsequent investigation led officers to a Georgian Bluffs residence where the stolen vehicle was found stuck in some mud.
A 36-year-old male who police say was found in possession of the vehicle upon officers’ arrival was arrested and charged. But further investigation determined a 26-year-old man was the one who stole the Lexus and other items from the church.
He was charged with numerous offences included theft of a vehicle, possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of property obtained by crime.
“The accused, who was released from custody on other criminal charges just two days prior, was held in police custody and is awaiting another bail hearing,” Owen Sound Police say in a release.
Police say while they were investigating the stolen vehicle officers encountered a man in the midst of a drug overdose and administered Narcan, which temporarily reversed the effects of the narcotics.
“With assistance from Grey County Paramedics, the man was taken to hospital where he was treated and later released,” police say.
