Provincial Police have announced a major drug bust resulting in several arrests in Grey Bruce and the seizure of narcotics.
OPP say members of its Grey Bruce Community Street Crimes Unit and the Owen Sound Police Service began a drug investigation surrounding drug trafficking in Owen Sound and throughout the region last year.
Yesterday (March 16), several search warrants were executed at undisclosed locations across Bruce and Grey counties. The OPP West Region Tactics and Rescue Unit, Emergency Response Team, other OPP resources and Owen Sound Police were involved in the execution of the warrants.
Police say they seized controlled substances worth nearly $70,000, more than $14,600 in cash and more than $6,400 in contraband cigarettes.
OPP say they also confiscated multiple pills believed to be controlled substances, a large quantity of “offence related currency” and other offence related property consistent with drug trafficking.
A 52-year-old man from South Bruce Peninsula and a 49-year-old man from Owen Sound were arrested and charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, among other offences.
Three other individuals were also arrested by Owen Sound Police in relation to the investigation.
“Yet again we see a successful multi agency investigation that has taken a large quantity of controlled substances off our streets. These substances pose a threat to the safety of community members across Grey Bruce, and we will continue to investigate them accordingly,” Grey Bruce OPP Detachment Commander Insp. Paul Richardson says in a release. “A seizure of this quantity could not be possible without the investigative excellence displayed by both our members from the OPP, and the members at the Owen Sound Police Service.”
