Grey County will provide the City of Owen Sound with $45,000 to buy land for affordable housing.
A County staff report says the money is coming from the County’s affordable housing reserve fund.
It will go towards the City’s purchase of the land from the Ministry of Infrastructure.
The land is located at 2181, 2207, and 2229, 8th Ave E (a couple of residential blocks south of St. Dominique Savio) in the same area as existing affordable housing developed by the Owen Sound Municipal Non-Profit Housing Corporation.
The plan is for the same non-profit to develop it into 10 to 12 single bedroom units.
Staff say the total purchase price of the land is $260,000, the City of Owen Sound has committed $215,000 and Grey County agreed Thursday to cover the remaining $45,000.
Grey County’s affordable housing reserve has a little over $1.5 million in it.
