Bruce County Council has chosen to allow off-road vehicles and snowmobiles on Bruce Road 23.
The move was considered to allow for improved trail accessibility, which the by-law did not permit.
Since implementing the county’s Off-Road Vehicles and Snowmobiles on County Highways by-law last year, staff was able to identify concerns in the Kincardine area due to Bruce Road 23 being designated as a prohibited highway for recreational vehicles.
The amendment to the standing by-law would allow those vehicles to use Bruce Road 23, instead of users needing to take a 30-kilometre detour using multiple roads to access the County Rail Trail.
By opening Bruce Road 23 to off-road vehicles, it would reduce the distance to 20 kilometres, and give users a more direct and efficient route.
