The Grey Sauble Conservation Authority is advising residents to prepare for potential localized flooding as a Colorado low brings significant rainfall to the region.
Environment conditions are expected to produce between 25 and 40 millimetres of rain through today and into the evening, with higher amounts possible during thunderstorms.
Officials say local watersheds remain saturated from recent rainfall, limiting the ground’s ability to absorb additional water. As a result, increased runoff is expected, which could cause smaller watercourses and urban drainage systems to fill quickly, leading to localized flooding in low-lying areas.
While larger river systems are expected to rise, they are not currently forecast to exceed typical spring runoff levels.
Residents are being reminded to exercise caution near all watercourses, as fast-moving water, slippery banks, and melting ice can create hazardous conditions.
Grey Sauble Conservation staff will continue monitoring weather patterns and water levels and will provide updates as needed.
The advisory remains in effect until Tuesday, April 7 at 12:00 p.m., unless updated earlier.
