The 100 Women Who Care Grey Bruce has set a new fundraising record for providing donations to local organizations.
At its September meeting, the group gave $41,700 to the Tara Area Food Bank.
The 100 Women Who care are a group of community members who each provide $100 of their own money, and then votes as a group to decide where that money goes next.
In a media release, Lynda Legge, Chair of 100 Women Who Care Grey Bruce, said, “When hundreds of women each commit to giving, we can make a significant difference in for organizations doing vital work in our communities.”
The Tara Area Food Bank serves its community without government funding, and the hard work of more than 20 volunteers and seven board members.
Each Wednesday, they serve clients ranging from infants to seniors. Clients choose the food their families need rather than a predetermined box.
The food bank also operates a clothing bank, provides Christmas support for families, and helps ensure that students attending Arran Tara Elementary School have access to pizza and milk.
While they work to serve their community, the need for their services continues to grow.
The Tara Area Food Bank spends more than $1,300 each week to keep food on its shelves.
100 Women Who Care Grey Bruce currently has 417 members, but is always looking for more interested community members to join. The group will hold their next meeting on November 14.
