Crime Stoppers of Grey Bruce is temporarily offline following a security vulnerability affecting the software their website runs on.
According to the website, as of Thursday, the tip intake is temporarily suspended.
The organization says that its board of directors opted to suspend the collection of tips, “effective immediately and until further notice.”
In its notification, it advised visitors to not submit their tips by any stream – by phone, online, or through the P3 Tips app.
Crime Stoppers of Grey Bruce said that its tip management platform, P3, was provided by a third party vendor called Navigate 360.
Earlier this year, Navigate 360 experienced a data security incident, which affected Crime Stoppers programs across Canada.
Crime Stoppers of Grey Bruce is directing people to contact their local police department for assistance, although information given directly to the police is not covered by the Crime Stoppers anonymity program.
