Summerfolk 46 has wrapped up in Owen Sound, in a year the event’s format was altered due to Covid.
Summerfolk Artistic Director James Keelaghan says the event on Aug. 21 and 22 was fantastic and musicians were able to entertain more than 1,400 people at a number of venues over the two days.
Eighteen different locations were set up for performances around Owen Sound, including at the traditional location at Kelso Beach Park.
Keelaghan says each of the venues were able to comply with public health regulations with capacity, masking and seating. He adds the Kelso Beach amphitheater was sold out both Saturday and Sunday.
Keelaghan notes he would like to get back to how Summerfolk normally operates at Kelso Beach in 2022. But, given how the pandemic has gone over the past year and a half, Keelaghan is unable to predict how things will unfold for next year.
“We know how to do a regular festival, we have known how to do that for 46 years,” says Keelaghan. “We now know how to do do this kind of a festival, and we also know how to do the live streaming.”
“We are very confident that no matter what happens next year,” continues Keelaghan, “that there will be a Summerfolk and people will come listen to live music.”
During a debrief of the event over the next couple of days, Keelaghan notes Summerfolk organizers will be looking at what went well with the event and what did not.
