Pastor David Baker of SouthPort Pentecostal Church in Saugeen Shores went from pulpit to pie plate, all in the name of Gran Fondo fundraising for the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation (SMHF).
Baker, who is also Chaplain for the Saugeen Shores Police Service, had the nerve to raise the most money in the police team virtual event at almost $12-hundred-dollars.
For his effort he received a pie in the face, in front of the police station, Sunday, August 22nd.
Doing the honours was the Executive Director of the SMHF, Tracy Murray, who splattered a plate full of whipped cream all over the face of Baker, who was decked out in his black police uniform.
Murray says she’s still amazed at how the community steps up.
Fearing “virtual event” burnout by the public, they set a goal of $100,000 and achieved $113,000 with money still coming in.
Baker considers himself “just one of a team” of police service personnel who helped raise just over $5,400 for the cause.
A handful of supporters were on hand to make sure Pastor Dave got his just desserts for raising the most money on the police team.
