The South Bruce OPP is providing safety tips for drivers as they share the road with farm equipment entering the harvest season.
Police say as an increasing number of farmers are operating from more than one site, there is an increase in the amount of time that farm vehicles are on the road.
To ensure the safety of everyone on the road, police are asking drivers to recognize the slow moving vehicles and use caution when approaching.
As the vehicles travel at about 35 kilometres per hour, drivers are asked to slow down when driving up to farm equipment on the road and be prepared to stop.
The OPP is also suggesting to watch out for left turns. As not all farm vehicles have turn signals, drivers should keep a lookout for a farmer signalling a turn with their hands.
Farmers and their vehicles may also be unable to pull off the road due to equipment weight or shoulder issues. If you are looking to pass, police are asking you to wait for a safe opportunity to do so.
Police add, when you pass a piece of farming equipment, do not stop of slow down in front of them as the large equipment is unable to brake as quickly as a car.
The South Bruce OPP is requesting drivers be courteous of the farm vehicle operators, as aggressive driving is not just unsafe, it is against the law.
