The South Bruce Grey Health Centre (SBGHC) says they have received direction for a gradual resumption of non-urgent and non-emergent clinical services.
This follows after the SBGHC as well as all hospitals across the province, were given instruction from the Ontario Chief Medical Officer of Health on Jan. 5 to put a hold on all non-emergent and non-urgent surgeries and procedures. This direction was given as a way to preserve critical care and human resource capacity in the Ontario health care system.
This directive was issued to allow staff to be redeployed from one area of the hospital to another to provide support to essential health services during the latest wave of Covid infections.
On Feb. 1 the Ontario Chief Medical Officer of Health issued a modified directive, allowing for the continuation of these services in areas where the health system capacity shows to be secure enough or where there is limited redeployment opportunity.
The new adjustments to the directive is, however, limiting non-emergent surgeries to only pediatric at this time.
Starting Feb. 8, the SBGHC will resume non-emergent and non-urgent laboratory, diagnostic imaging and cardiorespiratory procedures at full capacity.
The SBGHC says as of Feb. 7, any additional appointments will have been added to the Community Lab Collection booking system.
