Sue Paterson is being acclaimed for a second one-year term as board chair for the Grey Bruce Health Unit’s Board of Health.
Paterson, the Mayor of Hanover and a Grey County councillor, was nominated for the role by Owen Sound Deputy Mayor Brian O’Leary during a Board of Health meeting on Feb 4. During the meeting, provincial appointee Alan Barfoot was also acclaimed for the vice-chair role on the Board of Health.
The nomination was supported by Southgate Deputy Mayor and Grey County representative Brian Milne.
Paterson says it is an honour to receive support from the Board of Health to serve for a second term as chair.
The purpose of the Board of Health is to govern public health units.
“We have come so far as a community while navigating the Covid pandemic. And through it all, the Grey Bruce Health Unit has continued to work tirelessly to protect and promote the health of the community,” says Paterson.
Paterson was first elected to Hanover council in 2003 and served as its mayor since 2014. She then took on the role of being a Board of Health member since December 2016.
Paterson was first acclaimed as board chair in December 2020, nine months after Covid was declared a global pandemic.
“With the light now visible at the end of the tunnel, I’m looking forward to seeing what we can continue to accomplish together as we endeavour to create a healthier future for all,” says Paterson.
Paterson assumed the board chair role from Huron-Kinloss Mayor and former Bruce County representative Mitch Twolan, who served as the chair for two terms due to the pandemic.
The position of chair for the board switches between Grey County and Bruce County representatives. As Twolan served for two terms, a Grey County representative is going to serve as chair for both 2021 and 2022.
After this term, the chair position will go back to a yearly switch between Bruce and Grey County representatives.
