Hanover Police say a loaded handgun and sawed-off shotgun were seized during a search.
Police say following an anonymous complaint about a suspicious pickup truck on March 22, a search warrant was executed on March 25 on a property east of Hanover in West Grey.
Officers from Hanover Police were joined by members of West Grey Police and the OPP K-9 unit from Wellington County for the search.
Police say in addition to the two firearms seized, one prohibited and one restricted, they also recovered a stolen snow vehicle and stolen pickup truck.
The 34-year-old West Grey man was arrested and later remanded into custody in Penetanguishene.
The accused is facing a number of charges including possession of a loaded restricted firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, careless storage of a firearm, possession of stolen property over $5,000, possession of stolen property under $5,000, and failing to comply with an undertaking.
Hanover Deputy Chief George Hebblethwaite says what started as an anonymous call from a concerned citizen about an abandoned truck has resulted in the seizure of two dangerous firearms.
“This investigation exemplified good intuitive police work and is an example of the dedication all officers have to the safety and security of the public we serve,” says Hebblethwaite.
