The Teeswater River Bridge replacement in Paisley is set to start next week.
The start of the replacement of the bridge on Bruce Road 3 on May 2, follows after the Bruce County Transportation and Environmental Services Committee approved the design last summer. The design will allow for more river flow clearance, and will have a lifespan of 75 years.
There is a community meeting on Thursday, April 28, 2022 from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM at the Paisley Town Hall Building/Royal Canadian Legion (338 Goldie Street, Paisley) for residents and businesses to hear about key project details, construction timelines, and business supports.
The existing bridge location will be closed from July 1 to around Aug. 31, 2023 for construction.
The project will start with the construction of a temporary bridge in May, which will connect Goldie Street and Church street across the Teeswater River, serving as a connecting detour in Paisley.
The construction will also includes work by the Municipality of Arran-Elderslie in 2023 on Queen Street north of the bridge. This will include work on watermains, sanitary and storm sewers, sidewalk rehabilitation, and road paving.
Heavier vehicles including semi-trucks, tractor trailers and agricultural equipment will need to take a different route to avoid crossing the bridge during the construction period, as a result of the tight turns of the in-town detour.
As an alternative, these vehicles will be able to travel east to west using Highway 40, 9 and 4, while using Highway 19, 10 and 21 traveling north to south.
The temporary bridge will be in operation from July to August 2023, with the old bridge demolition and new bridge construction occuring at the same time. The new infrastructure construction north of the bridge is slated for the start of the new year, with the temporary bridge demolition scheduled for September, 2023.
County Warden Janice Jackson says, “the county is collaborating with our municipal partners to provide necessary infrastructure enhancements to support shared industries and our growing economy. This bridge replacement on Bruce Road 3 will provide improved safety, services, and accessibility for the public long into the future.”
