Grey County’s Committee of the Whole has awarded a $1 million tender for the reconstruction of Grey Road 27 in Durham.
During a meeting on April 28, a report was brought forward recommending awarding the tender to SMRS Construction.
The report says the municipality of West Grey and Grey County have been working together to complete a design for the reconstruction of Grey Road 27, Durham Road West.
The county owns the road right-of-way and has jurisdiction over it.
West Grey tendered the project in early March, and awarded the tender at its April 19 council meeting.
With the road in poor condition, it requires reconstruction. West Grey has municipal infrastructure like watermains, sanitary sewers and sidewalks within the corridor which also needs to be replaced and updated.
The project will include the replacement of sanitary sewers, watermains and storm sewers, as well as the reconstruction of the roadbed.
The project is facing a $63,000 deficit, and staff are recommending that it be funded from any surplus from within the 2022 capital construction budget, or if there is not enough available, from the transportation general reserve.
