Meaford Committee of the Whole is recommending council award a $268,000 tender for roof replacements to various municipal buildings.
During a meeting on May 9, a report was brought forward by CAO Rob Armstrong. It recommended authorizing the treasurer to transfer $48,000 from the water capital reserve fund and $32,000 from the wastewater capital reserve fund, and award the tender to LaFleche Roofing Ltd.
The report says the municipality issued a tender for the replacement of various roofs at the Meaford Water Treatment Plant and the Wastewater Treatment Plant, as the roofs are past their recommended life expectancies.
The funding for the roof replacements were included in both the water and wastewater capital budget.
The scope of the contract includes the supply of materials, equipment, labour and safety devices to complete the replacement project, while also removing and replacing the HVAC and blower.
The call for the tender was issued on April 7 and three bids were received, with LaFleche Roofing being the least expensive.
Coun. Steven Bartley asked if they eventually construct an expansion to the wastewater facility, they would not be building a new facility but build on to it.
In response, Armstrong says they still have not finalized the design of what the building would look like.
“The repairs are imminent, this is the original roof on that building and it needs repairing now,” says Armstrong.
