A resident of Gateway Haven in Bruce County has won an Ontario Senior of the Year award.
Bruce County says the award was given as part of Ontario’s Seniors Month in June, and is presented by a municipality to recognize an outstanding senior, over the age of 65, who enriches social, cultural, or civic life of the community.
This year’s award was given to Kathy Broeckel.
Broeckel has been a resident of Gateway Haven since 2017 and during her time at the home, the county says she has been actively involved in resident council and has made sure residents have a collective voice on the quality of life in the home.
The county adds with Broeckel’s leadership and support, the council provides advice and recommendations to the home on what residents would like to see done to improve care and well-being.
Director of Long Term Care and Senior Services Megan Garland says Gateway Haven is very appreciative of Broeckel’s voice and leadership as her contributions to the home are so deserving of this honour.
Warden Janice Jackson adds, “thank you Kathy Broeckel for you valuable contributions to Gateway Haven’s care and quality of life. Your leadership and passion for the well-being of your fellow residents is remarkable and you are so deserving of this appreciation and recognition.”
