The South Bruce Grey Health Centre has closed the emergency department at the Chesley and Walkerton hospitals throughout this weekend.
This weekend will see more closures than what was previously announced.
The Chesley ED will be closed:
• 5 pm on Friday, August 26th to 7 am on Saturday, August 27th
• 5 pm on Saturday, August 27th to 7 am on Sunday, August 28th
• 5 pm on Sunday, August 28th to 7 am on Monday, August 29th
• 5 pm on Monday, August 29th to 7 am on Tuesday, August 30th
SBGHC is also announcing that Walkerton’s emergency department will be closed:
• 8 pm on Monday, August 29th to 7 am on Tuesday, August 30th
The additional closures are because of a high number of short-notice sick leaves.
This means the hospitals are suddenly seeing a significant shortage of both RNs and RPNs.
The health centre says that they’ve been doing everything they can to help cover staffing shortages.
Ambulance bypass will also be undertaken to divert patients to the nearest open emergency department.
