The fundraising organization assisting the Walkerton hospital is disbanding.
The South Bruce Grey Health Centre (SBGHC) says the 120-year-old volunteer Walkerton Hospital Auxiliary, worked to raise funds for both the Walkerton site as well as the former County of Bruce General Hospital.
In addition to operating a gift shop at the Walkerton site, the organization also held fundraising initiatives in the community to help purchase medical equipment for the hospital.
The SBGHC says in July 2022, the auxiliary presented a $6,800 cheque to the Walkerton and District Hospital Foundation from the sale of the remaining items in the gift shop, before it closed its doors in the spring.
Walkerton and District Hospital Foundation President Mark Gaynor says, “with the help of these ladies, as well as from Ken Weber and the late Walter Demerling, we have been successful in replacing the equipment required to support our hospital staff and our community.”
