Owen Sound is being named as a finalist in two provincial 2022 Tourism Resiliency Award categories.
The city says Savour Owen Sound, a winter culinary promotion, has been announced as a finalist in the collaboration category for both Accommodation and Resource Based Tourism awards.
The promotion is held annually in March, which the city says attracts a number of tourists who are encouraged to support local restaurants.
The city adds in 2021, when the culinary industry continued to face pandemic-related struggles, the tourism division changed the framework of the annual event to fall in line with public health requirements. It was reinvented to #SupportLocal with creating a curbside feature to encourage restaurants to easily participate.
During the 2021 event, 26 eateries participated and peaked at reaching 4,848 people daily, and served 42,567 over the campaign.
“We are thrilled that Savour Owen Sound has been named a finalist in the Tourism Resiliency Awards. We respect and support our amazing culinary community, and we’d like to thank everyone who helped make Savour Owen Sound a sustained success despite the challenges of the Covid-19 outbreak,” says Mayor Ian Boddy.
The winners are expected to be announced sometime today here.
