Police Services in Bruce and Grey counties are taking part in the annual provincial Crime Prevention Week.
The initiative is led by the Ministry of the Solicitor General and municipal police services in the region have been showcasing their community programs.
Saugeen Shores Police is focusing on showcasing several local programs that contribute to community safety and well-being.
One of those is the community watch program — a volunter based citizen organization that works with the town’s police services to conduct random patrols in areas that are prone to incidents.
You can find more information on how to volunteer for community watch on the Saugeen Shores Police website.
West Grey Police say they are showcasing a number of community safety topics and the initiatives in place to address them.
And Owen Sound Police Community Service Officer Jason Cranny says they’re talking to community partners on ideas and initiatives to help them stay safe both in the community and online.
Cranny says crime prevention week is important as it allows police to connect with the community.
“It really helps so that people don’t fall into some of those pitfalls with regards to crime prevention. We want to make sure people are educated and well aware of the things they can do to prevent crime from happening,” says Cranny.
Cranny encourages reaching out to local police to learn more about preventing crime.
