Northern Bruce Peninsula council is going to consider including almost $50,000 in community funding requests in the 2023 budget.
In a special council meeting on Nov. 28, a report will be coming forward by Interim Treasurer Tony Houad. The report details the almost $50,000 in community funding requests and $33,000 of in-kind contributions.
The report says on an annual basis, applications are submitted to a community funding program offered by the municipality. The goal is to enhance and enrich the community, by supporting project-based initiatives in community service, art and culture, social service, and environment.
Funding can vary in the form of direct payments or in-kind waiving of rental fees.
The application deadline for 2023 was Oct. 28, with a max of $2,000 being allowed for each organization.
In 2022, 27 groups received a total of $25,000 in financial funding. This year, 51 groups will be receiving funds or in-kind contributions.
Such groups include the Bruce County Festival, receiving $500 in financial requests, and $1,275 of in-kind requests. Crime Stoppers of Grey Bruce would receive $2,000 in financial requests to help cover operating costs, the Golden Dawn Senior Home would receive $2,000 for their enrichment project, and the Lion’s Heard Pickleball Club would be receiving $900 in funding and $640 of in-kind requests for their 2023 season.
Council will be considering these requests at its special meeting on Nov. 28 at 9 a.m.
