Northern Bruce Peninsula is entering into a grant agreement with Parks Canada to help with costs associated with featuring a settler cabin at the St. Edmund’s Township Museum.
During a meeting on Nov. 28, a report was received by CAO Peggy Van Mierlo-West. It recommended authorizing an agreement with Parks Canada for the Davis Settler Cabin relocation project.
The report says this follows a museum committee meeting held in September 2021, where Co-Chair Rob Davis advised he was in contact with Parks Canada with the donation of a log cabin from the Dunks Bay area to the museum.
Council approved the venture, and the museum received an Ontario Trillium Foundation grant to assist with the relocation project.
Site preparation for the relocation started earlier this year, with the cabin arriving to the site earlier in November.
With the successful relocation, Parks Canada put together an agreement to offer the municipality $25,000 to assist with eligible costs associated with its relocation.
“This 1800’s cabin will offer another experience for museum visitors to explore and view the early history of the area,” says the report.
