The Ginger Press is holding its 37th Annual Authors’ Open House today.
This year’s event also marks a return to the Ginger Press’s location in Downtown Owen Sound, after having to take time away because of COVID.
The purpose of the event, as always, is to celebrate local authors.
“The Ginger Press focuses on local books by local authors and this is a small community and the authors don’t get the exposure they normally would if they were part of a larger community. So what we do once a year is to try and bring them together once a year to celebrate all of the accomplishments that people have done for the literature of this community,” says Ginger Press owner Maryann Thomas.
On this year’s schedule, 17 local authors will be available throughout the day.
This includes Joan Beecroft, Lili Anne Holding, Bonita Johnson de Matteis, Rob Ritchie, and Eric Zweig.
This event also launches two recently published books: The Flemings of Derby Township by Gwen Harris and Ruth Fleming Larmour, and The Owen Sounders: Profiles of People Who Made a Difference by Richard Thomas.
The event is a chance to meet authors, get signed books for everyone on your Christmas list, and enjoy some refreshments while it all takes place.
Thomas says that there have also been instances in previous years where someone has become a published author themselves after speaking with some local authors.
She says that it’s an incredible chance for aspiring authors to do a bit of networking. “People come in and have a chance to talk with a wide variety of authors about a lot of different things. Sometimes, it’s the content of the books, and sometimes it’s about the publishing process, about how people actually got published. And the authors are very generous about sharing their stories with the public.”
The event that all local literature fans have been waiting for is happening between 11 and 2 today.
Autographed books can be reserved at (519)-376-4233.
The Ginger Press is located at 848 2nd Avenue East.
