Grey Bruce Hospice has received a $40,000 donation this week from previous MPP for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound Bill Walker.
The Chapman House says after retiring from politics this year, and in lieu of gifts, he has asked his colleagues, friends and family to consider making a donation to the hospice.
The raised funds were presented to hospice on Dec. 16.
Grey Bruce Hospice Executive Director Janet Fairbridge says Walker has been a dedicated champion of Grey Bruce Hospice since day one.
“He recognized early on that the need for free access to hospice palliative care is important for all citizens of Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound, and he was a tireless advocate on our behalf. While no longer at Queen’s Park, he continues to provide his generous support and we are very grateful,” says Fairbridge.
Walker thanks those who donated to Grey Bruce Hospice.
“Chapman house is a wonderful organization that provides care and compassion in a family’s greatest time of need, and it is my pleasure to have helped in a small way. As we move toward the holiday season and year-end, I would like to encourage anyone who is able to reflect on how fortunate we are to have such an incredible facility, staff, and volunteers in our community, and to give as they are able, now and in future,” says Walker.
The donation will go towards the hospice’s annual year-end campaign.
“It is our annual campaign where we turn to our community to tell them the good news stories about the wonderful people that we have been privileged to care for here at Chapman House, and to ask the community for their continued support. We, on an annual basis, look to continue our funding to make sure that Grey Bruce Hospice and Chapman House is sustainable for our community well into the future, and we rely very heavily on our community to help us do that,” says Fairbridge.
