A significant winter storm is expected to arrive in Grey Bruce later this week and cause some trouble for Christmas travellers.
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the region saying a mix of rain and snow is expected to fall Thursday and Friday, that could potentially flash freeze on Friday as temperatures rapidly drop.
Forecasters say strong winds, heavy snow and possible blizzard conditions are expected late Friday into Christmas Eve and Christmas Day for areas downwind of Georgian Bay and Lake Huron.
“While there is high confidence in a high impact winter storm, the details regarding wind speeds, precipitation types and amounts remain highly uncertain at this time,” Environment Canada says in a special weather statement. “Consider altering plans through the holiday weekend as travel conditions may become dangerous. Extensive utility outages are possible.”
