Kincardine council passed the 2023 budget at Monday night’s meeting.
A few projects were deferred to 2024 because they were not a priority for this year, such as a new sound system to be installed downtown.
Instead, that project is expected to be brought forward once the Downtown Dig is completed.
Councillor Mike Hinchberger moved to have the sound system removed from the 2023 budget because Queen Street is about to be in a large-scale reconstruction project, and the proposed sound system would be installed on Queen Street, as well as at a proposed parkette that does not currently exist.
Councillor Bill Stewart reminded members of council that just because an item was removed from the budget doesn’t mean it can’t be brought back to council.
“We do a capital project all at once, but if we want to do a capital project halfway through the year, you can bring it into [council] as a motion,” explains Stewart.
The Queen Street Reconstruction Project was the only capital project which will impact the 2023 tax rate.
The total 2023 Capital Budget for the Municipality of Kincardine comes out to $20,794,241.
