Premier Doug Ford has hinted a new announcement on Covid lockdowns could come as early as Monday.
And some Bruce County councillors are calling for an end to the lockdown.
The subject came up while Medical Officer of Health for the Grey Bruce Health Unit, Dr. Ian Arra, was delivering a report to county councillors on February 4th.
Dr. Arra says the lockdown has never been needed in Grey Bruce.
He says: “The community response and commitment to health has been sufficient to control the pandemic without any lockdown.”
Arra points out although the argument has been made to the province it’s the province that has the last say.
Councillors support Dr. Arra’s efforts to eliminate the lockdown, including Saugeen Shores Mayor Luke Charbonneau who says he supports the effort to go back to the “pre-Christmas framework approach.”
Councillor and Brockton Mayor Chris Peabody says the second lockdown has been devastating for many in his community, stating, “I think it’s time to get our Main Street back to work.”
