The construction for the Durham Street Bridge is back on track after being put on hold due to a flooding issue in March.
On March 17, the construction platform underneath the bridge was damaged during a flooding event. It was decided by the county’s Transportation and Environmental Services department that work on the bridge would have to wait while the platform was repaired and debris was cleared.
During the county council meeting on May 1st, Manager of Engineering Ryan Errington said that the appropriate repairs to the construction platform were completed, and that work on the bridge was ready to continue.
Crews had to wait for the Saugeen River’s water level to return to normal before undertaking the construction platform repairs.
The county involved a contractor to work a effectively as possible. Immediate repairs completed so fare are repairs to the concrete beams, installing temporary shoring, repairing lap joints, and completing chip and patch repairs on the north side of the bridge.
Remaining work still needed to complete Phase 1 of the bridge includes repair of the south half expansion joints, and chip and patch repairs on the south side, as well as full depth bridge deck spot repairs on the south side.
The refurbishment of the Durham Street Bridge is still expected to be completed by late 2025.
Vehicle weight restrictions will be re-assessed once Phase 1 is completed.
