A lot of us are looking for ways to keep busy this summer without breaking the bank.
Here are some ideas for budget-friendly fun:
1. Reading! Get a library card if you don’t already have one! They’re free. Plus, most libraries also have activities throughout the summer. AND on those hot days when you still want to get out of the house, Air Conditioning!

2. Bird-Watching! This has become more popular in recent years! You can download apps that can help you to identify and document your findings.
3. Writing! Why not try your hand at a poem or a short story! No experience necessary and the only thing you’ll need is a notebook a pen. This is also good for kids to practice their writing/printing skills.
4. Rock Collecting! Go for a walk at a park or along the water and look for cool rocks! You could even make a scavenger hunt and really have some fun!
5. Exercise! A healthy way to stau buys and have some fun! Go for a walk, visit a park for some yoga, which is often free.
6. Chess or Board Games. If you don’t have these, watch for them at garage sales as you can often find them for cheap!

7. Cooking! Teaching yourself a new recipe can be a lot of fun, plus practical as you gotta eat! Working on cooking or baking with your kids or grandkids can also be a great opportunity for them to learn about kitchen safety, measuring, etc.
8. Drawing / Art / Crafts. You can pick up supplies for fairly cheap and make some beautiful creations to keep for yourself or gift to others.
9. Hiking. There’s no shortage of places to explore in our area. Many trails and most of them are free access. There are a few where you may need to pay for parking, but it’s still a fun, affordable activity.
10. Gardening. Do you have a flower bed that you can use or a balcony? Buying some dirt and seeds is affordable and it can be a lot of fun to see what you can grow!
11. Pickleball. The popularity of this sport is pretty wild! You can pick up paddles for cheap or borrow them! A lot of local arenas and community centres offer this throughout the summer.
