Nobody was injured during a fire at the Bear Tracks Inn in Lion’s Head on Wednesday evening.
That’s according to Northern Bruce Peninsula Fire Chief Jack Burt.
The fire started after a bathroom exhaust fan failed and caught fire. The fire then spread through the attic space and into the attached residences.
Burt says that this is also an opportunity to remind everyone to clean out bathroom fans on a regular basis, as his investigation found that the fan in question was so full of debris that it choked the motor, causing it to short, which started the fire.
The fire department is also saying to ensure that smoke detectors are checked regularly and are functioning correctly.
The five residential units were evacuated without incident. Three fire stations responded to the blaze with 28 firefighters present.
Burt says that there is smoke damage to the structure, as well as water damage from firefighting efforts. He estimates that the total cost of the damage is $2.2 million.
