Here are some great ways to get some cleaning done around the house without using harsh chemicals, instead, things that most of probably already have around the house.
1. Tackle soap scum with baking soda and vinegar: Mix a paste of 3 parts baking soda and 1 part water. Apply it to the soap scum buildup, then spray vinegar on top. The bubbling action will help lift the grime. Let it sit for 10 minutes, then scrub with a soft brush or sponge. Rinse away for a sparkling clean shower.
2. Use a dishwasher for more than dishes: Pop plastic or metal vent covers, small plastic containers, or even your kitchen sponges in the dishwasher. Just be sure to use the top rack for items that are more delicate.
3. Get rid of streaks on windows with cornstarch: Hack: Mix 2 tablespoons of cornstarch into a gallon of warm water. Dip a microfibre cloth in the solution, wring it out, and clean your windows as usual. The cornstarch helps cut through grease and leaves a crystal-clear finish.
4. Revive grout with hydrogen peroxide and baking soda: Make a paste of 2 parts baking soda, 1 part hydrogen peroxide, and a dash of dish soap. Apply it to your grout lines and let it sit for 15-20 minutes. Scrub with a toothbrush, then rinse clean.
5. Clean your microwave with steam: ill a microwave-safe bowl with water and add 1-2 tablespoons of vinegar or lemon juice. Microwave on high for 5 minutes. The steam will loosen the gunk inside. Wipe it down with a damp cloth afterward.
6. Deodorize your carpet with salt and baking soda: Mix 1 cup of baking soda with 1/4 cup of salt. Sprinkle the mixture evenly over your carpet and let it sit for 15-30 minutes. Vacuum it up to reveal fresh-smelling, deodorized carpet.
7. Eliminate hard water stains with a lemon: Cut a lemon in half and rub it directly on the water spots, especially around faucets or showerheads. Let it sit for a few minutes, then wipe clean with a microfibre cloth.
8. Deep clean your blender with dish soap and warm water: After making your smoothie or shake, fill the blender halfway with warm water and add a drop of dish soap. Put the lid on and run the blender on high for 30 seconds. Rinse and repeat if necessary.
9. Use a Magic Eraser on baseboards and walls: Wet the Magic Eraser and gently scrub scuff marks or dirt on your baseboards and walls. You don’t need a lot of elbow grease, just let the eraser do the work.
10. Refresh your mattress with baking soda: Sprinkle a generous amount of baking soda across the entire surface of the mattress. Let it sit for at least 15 minutes (or up to an hour), then vacuum it up. This will help remove odours and absorb moisture.
