Port Elgin’s Pumpkinfest may be online this year, but the Pumpkin seed spitting contest will not be stopped.
Because of the ongoing pandemic, Pumpkinfest will be held online with a live webcast of the weigh-off, but no public attendance.
Festival organizers say in a media release “These events are historically a lot of fun and the community enjoys watching our VIPs take part,” adding, “We would like to invite you to submit a short video, filmed in the comfort of your own backyard, of you spitting and measuring your result.”
Organizers say the winner’s footage will be used in the live broadcast, where they will also accept the Silver Seed award.
Organizers say the process is as follows:
Reply to this email with your mailing address and they will send you some seeds.
(They note, recently there has been a seed scam going around mailing seeds to addresses to collect their information. If you feel more comfortable they can drop off the seeds to you).
Once you’ve received your seeds, have a family member or friend record a video of your attempt (getting the spit and the measuring tape in the video)
Organizers say, “Do not share your results let us build the excitement!”
Once the video has been filmed, upload to the Google Seed Spitting Form and fill out the required information.
