A new veterans crosswalk has been installed in Meaford ahead of Remembrance Day.
It’s located on the west side of the Sykes Street and Nelson Street West intersection. The crosswalk was designed by the Royal Canadian Legion — which is marking its 100th anniversary — and is intended to honour those who have served and sacrificed.
“I am delighted to see this commemorative crosswalk installed at a key intersection in our municipality,” Outgoing Meaford Mayor Ross Kentner says in a release. “It offers residents and visitors an opportunity to pause, reflect and remember the sacrifices of our veterans.”
The new veterans crosswalk in Meaford includes the message: “In honour of those who served and sacrificed.” The French-language translation is also included.
Council approved the crosswalk’s installation and design in July. Members of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 32 recommended the crosswalk location as it’s close to the Cenotaph.
