Jiri Gombar scored the winner with 48 seconds left in overtime to lift the Kitchener Rangers to a 3-2 win over Owen Sound Attack in Ontario Hockey League action Saturday evening at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre.
Gombar streaked up ice after a wild sequence in front of the Rangers net, where Jason Schaubel made a scramble save — and then won a puck off the right board, cut out front and whipped a wrist shot by Ryerson Leenders to win it.
Cameron Arquette and Charlie Puglisi also scored for Kitchener (10-6-2-1), which won its second straight.
Pierce Mbuyi and Lucas Prud’homme had the goals for the Attack (6-10-2), which battled back from 2-0 down but ultimately took its fourth straight loss.
Schaubel made 24 saves in the win, while Leenders stopped 28 taking the loss. The Rangers outshot the Attack 31-26 while going 1 for 5 on the power play; Owen Sound finished 1 for 4.
The Attack continue a four-game homestand next Wednesday, Nov. 11 — Remembrance Day — when the Barrie Colts visit the Bayshore.
